The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is a full-sized grand tourer produced by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz. It was first announced and promoted in 1998 but the CL can directly trace its roots back to the W126-chassis SEC-class of 1981-1991.

The 2008 CL-Class is a 2-door, 4-passenger luxury coupe, available in 4 trims, ranging from the CL550 Coupe to the CL65 AMG Coupe.

Honda Announces First FCX Clarity Customers

Five of the first customers for its highly developed new FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle was announced by the American Honda Motor Co., Inc. yesterday and also presented details of the world's pioneering fuel cell vehicle dealership network in the United States.

According to the Auto Channel, film producer Ron Yerxa will receive delivery of the first FCX Clarity in next month. The remaining four early adopters for Honda's next-generation fuel cell vehicle are author and actress Jamie Lee Curtis and her filmmaker husband Christopher Guest; business owner and car enthusiast Jim Salomon; actress Laura Harris; and Jon Spallino, already the world's first retail fuel cell vehicle customer, who has been leasing the current generation FCX since 2005. American Honda announced the organization of the first association of dealers to aid the sales and service of fuel cell vehicles to provide its customers with exceptional sales and service support and as a significant pace in advancing fuel cell vehicles in the real world.

Hyundai Beats Toyota?

Consumer Reports judged the Hyundai Elantra SE best with an "Excellent" overall road test score after giving tests to a group of compacts and subcompacts. However, three other compact cars, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus, also obtained "Very Good" ratings in recent information on gas-saving sedans published in the July issue. The Corolla got a very remarkable 32 mpg overall in Consumer Reports' real-world fuel economy tests. The record set by the Corolla is among the finest gas mileage CR has ever accounted in a standard gasoline-powered car with an automatic transmission. On the other hand, only the smaller Honda Fit (32 mpg) and Toyota Yaris (33 mpg) subcompacts recorded fair enough remarks.

Two Chevrolets, the Cobalt and Aveo, has also undergone tests as part of this class. Both Chevy models ranked close to the bottom of the group. The Cobalt ranks 17th out of 19 vehicles tested among compact sedans. Among subcompacts, the Aveo ranks last among the 12 vehicles tested.

Prices for the six cars in CR's tests range from $16,205 for the subcompact Aveo LT to $19,106 for the Impreza 2.5i which is all wheel drive. The best of the present’s small cars offer several convenience features, comfy interiors, high-quality modification, and enhanced fuel economy even with prices under $20,000.

Full tests and ratings of the test group will come out in the July issue of Consumer Reports, which will land on various stores on June 3. The issue showcases a cover package of stories on gas-saving cars, with CR's ratings on a overall of 31 small sedans and 21 most used cars with superior mpg numbers.

ZAP ALIAS On Its Way

ZAP, a company that supports environmental causes, in collaboration with Youngman Automotive Group, the leading luxury coach and high-quality commercial truck manufacturer in China, and Lotus Engineering, same firm that helped develop ZAP’s famous Tesla Roadster, is planning to introduce its $30,000 electric sports car called ZAP ALIAS, news from ecofriendlydriver.com, said.

The ALIAS is a three-wheeled vehicle that runs via two in-wheel 320 horsepower motors. It is equipped with a hybrid range extender and could travel for 150 miles on just one charge. According to ZAP, ALIAS has a maximum speed capacity that reaches up to 120 miles per hour.

Ideally, ZAP aims to release the ALIAS by mid-2009. Lotus Engineering Chief Executive Officer Albert Lam supports that vision saying that based from their initial project development plan and discussions with other technology and engineering partners, that timeline is attainable.

Just recently, Zap and China Youngman Automotive Group announced their joint venture to revive the 100 year-old electric car brand Detroit Electric that has been an American icon in terms of the most popular electric cars in auto history. The ZAP ALIAS will be one of the cars to carry the two companies’ new brand, along with other new vehicle technologies that are expected to bring more jobs to citizens of California.

You may find it ridiculous or crazy. Or perhaps, the other way around. But some individuals insist that creating compact communities and getting rid of the need to drive everywhere is the best remedy to fight the ills of global warming by slashing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles. They added the answer to the problem of American car is not under the hood.

The production of modern cars is pricey and deemed an environmental nightmare. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, transportation generates more than a quarter of greenhouse gases in America. Part of that comes from moving freight around but over 20% is personal transportation.

To stress, our vehicle emissions serve as a major climate change contributor. But the tailpipe emissions are just a fraction of the total climate impact of driving a car. Moreover, having better mileage won’t solve the problems.

Yes, we are aware of the fact that density cuts driving. And we are capable of building dense neighborhood, right? Dense community isn’t synonymous with congested environment. It conveys public places, prosperous neighborhood retail, and a tangible sense of place. Not only is the result one of the most liveable cities in North America, but 40% of all downtown Vancouver households are car-free, according to BusinessWeek.

We are also capable of creating compact communities. Infrastructure, habitat and more are workable. Creating dense communities to save those 85 million metric tons of tailpipe emissions is uncomplicated - minus politics, of course.

If this end is materialized, it would mean dramatic energy and cost savings. Researchers at Brookings have this to say: "Transportation costs are a significant part of the average household budget. The average transportation expenditures for the median income household in the U.S. in 2003 was 19.1%, the highest expenditure after housing."

Yes, there are a lot of savvy environment-friendly allies who are absorbed in making green road machines. Worth noting is the pool of designers and engineers behind the 100-mpg Aptera. According to the Vehicle Design Summit, it is a "hyperefficient four-to-six-passenger vehicle earmarked for India that will demonstrate a 95% reduction in embodied energy, materials, and toxicity.”

The report continued: “Green, compact communities, smaller, well-built homes, walkable streets, and smart infrastructure can actually offer a far better quality of life than living in McMansion hintersprawl in purely material terms: more comfort, more security, more true prosperity. January Reflects Weak Sales

After the December holiday rush, it’s expected that sales will decline. But January sales decline this year is quite notable. Analysts predict that American sales could drop by 3% or as many as 36,000 vehicles this month.

"Car sales were remarkably slow in January, probably in part because of dramatic stock market fluctuations that flustered consumers at a time when the housing market and other economic uncertainties were also making headlines," said Jesse Toprak, the executive director for industry analysis at Edmunds.com.

How grave is the expected decline? Analysts noted sales in the United States won’t improve until the second half of this year at the earliest. The controlling factors include the success of newly launched products and the national election.

At present, auto shoppers are getting playful. And some are getting pessimistic.

"Our sense is macroeconomic pressures, particularly deteriorating consumer confidence and gas 'permanently' above $3 a gallon, will increasingly catch up with consumers throughout 2008, weighing on demand for durable goods," Bear Stearns analyst Peter Nesvold said in a recent note to investors. "For many consumers, a new vehicle purchase has become largely a discretionary item."

Robert Barry, an analyst with Goldman Sachs, said in an interview with the Associated Press that while consumers can take comfort in the fact that gas prices seem to be stabilizing, they are still scared off by the weak labor market. He predicted annual sales of 15 million vehicles this year, which would be the lowest U.S. sales rate since 1993.

Other analysts, meanwhile, predict higher sales. But most of them said sales will likely fall below 16 million. Last year, there were 16.3 million vehicles sold. What’s more, Detroit’s Big 3 - GM, Ford, and Chrysler is likely to take the largest blows.

The Concepts

At motor shows like the North American International Auto Show, one can always find a concept vehicle. Many of us go to these shows just to get a glimpse of the latest cool vehicle. Although concept vehicles will not be marketed in the near future, we keep coming back to see them.

At the NAIAS, concept vehicles are once again being showcased. One of them is the Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept. With that eco squeezed in there, you will already have an idea that this is a green car. And you will be right in assuming that it is a green car as it is powered by a high powered Lithium-ion battery pack. Apart from that, the ecoVoyager also has an advanced fuel cell power source. As of now, the probability of this four-door passenger car being available in the market very soon is not that much.

Another concept vehicle gracing the NAIAS with its presence is the Dodge ZEO concept. This carries on the tradition of the Dodge badge known for muscle cars. It is a sport wagon which looks stunning which is really not surprising as Dodge is one of the better known brands when it comes to designing sports cars. And while the ZEO concept is one fast car, it is eco-friendly as well as it is powered by an electric propulsion system. Unlike the Volt which needs a range extender, the ZEO does not need it as its powerful Li-ion battery pack can power the vehicle for 250 miles. Cool eh?

Although these vehicles will be very good indeed for consumers and the environment, automakers will not be able to mass produce these vehicles if they cannot bring the cost of production down.

Rolls-Royce to Increase Production to Meet Growing Demands

For 2007 Rolls-Royce has obtained a demand increase of 25 percent pushing delivery times to nearly two years. Ian Robertson, the Chairman of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said that the production has been sold out all the way to mid of 2009.

Furthermore, Chairman Robertson is also expecting for sales to grow faster for the Phantom and the Drophead Coupe in 2008. He said, "A lot of our dealers say they have simply stopped taking any more orders." It can be noted that Rolls Royce’s Goodwood plant has rolled out around 1,000 units of Phantom and Drophead Coupe, still not enough to meet the increasing demand. Chairman Robertson has announced drastic measures to increase production to meet the growing demands from wealthy individuals in emerging markets.

Rolls-Royce also plans to increase its 650 workforce. The luxury carmaker will recruit an additional 300 to 400 workers and will invest around £10 and £15 million in the Goodwood plant.

China is currently Rolls-Royce’s third biggest market and Chairman Robertson is expecting for 100 cars to be sold this year up from the 71 cars sold last 2006. He said, "It is not bad when you consider we had not sold a single Rolls-Royce vehicle in China prior to 2003."

30th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06 Pace Car

GM built a special 30^th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06 Pace Car to celebrate the 30^th year of the Chevrolet pace cars at the famous race in Indianapolis and the 10^th for the Corvette nameplate.

The 30^th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06 is painted in black and silver to commemorate the 1978 pace car. It will be driven by the two-time Indy Champion Emerson Fittipaldi who will also be signing all 500 of the 2008 pace car replicas which will be offered in both coupe and convertible form. Power is to be supplied by the LS3 small block V8 that revs up 436 hp with either a six-speed manual or six-speed paddle shift automatic transmission. The vehicle will ride on new 2008 forged chrome five-spoke aluminium wheels.

It is surprising to note that the Corvette Z06 E85 concept is not exactly what GM has in mind but after Pratt & Miller has showed their Jay Leno commissioned C6RS E85 powered C6 at the SEMA Show, the automaker was somehow encourage to build its own version based on the Z06 instead of the C6.

MP4-23 to be launched at the Unterturkheim Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart

It was only two weeks ago when McLaren Mercedes has announced that it has no plans of holding an official launching of its 2008 car. Mercedes Motorsport Vice President Norbert Haug has confirmed however that the MP4-23 will be presented instead on the 7^th of January at the Unterturkheim Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart.

The launching will be attended by Mercedes very own boss and Daimler Chairman Dieter Zetsche. Other details of the MP4-23 together with the photos and technical data will be released after the launch.

However McLaren has made a previous announcement stating that the car would make its first public appearance at an exclusive test at Jerez in the second week of 2008. It can be remembered that in early months of 2007 the team launched an all-new driver partnership with Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton with title sponsorship from Vodafone. The announcement was made in front of a huge crowd in the streets of Valencia.

For this year, McLaren is once again claiming that it has the fastest drivers in its stable with Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen who has just finished his first season in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton on the other hand will have a hard time taking on the role left by Alonso as the number one driver of the team.

Ford Racing drivers at NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series had a great day at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 USG Ford Fusion finished 2nd during the recent Dickies 500 race and placed himself in the 10th spot at the Chase for the Championship.

Kenseth commented after the race:
“I’m happy and I’m disappointed. Whenever you’re leading with three to go, you’re always disappointed when you don’t win. That’s been a couple of races here in a row that’s happened to us, got passed on the last lap. So, I was disappointed in that, but overall, if I look back at the day, it was a great day for us. I don’t think we necessarily had a second-place car most of the day. It was good Friday when we unloaded, and tonight when it got dark it was pretty good again. But during the day we weren’t really any good at all. So that was probably a little bit of an advantage at the end.”

Meanwhile, although Carl Edwards finished the O'Reilly Challenge race for the Busch Series in the 11th place, he still managed to secure his championship title. Edwards commented about his achievement:

"I'm proud of my guys. We had an unbelievable first half of the season. We had some many points. These guys have been working very hard. I'm so grateful to be driving this car. To win it here at Texas, this track has a lot of memories here for me. It's just a really good feeling."

Honda at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show

Japanese automaker Honda is poised to unveil two new concept models at this year's 40th Tokyo Motor Show happening later this October. Want to know them? Then continue reading below.

First off is the Honda CR-Z (Compact Renaissance - Zero) Concept. This new model is a two-seater lightweight compact sports coupe model featuring Honda's petrol-electric hybrid IMA powertrain under its sleek hood. This powertrain system offers low emissions and impressive economy without compromising the car's performance. Other features of the Honda CR-Z Concept include:

- large bumper with gaping air intakes
- smooth lines across the glass roof
- Tube shaped combination lamps at the rear
- include stylish, high-visibility wing mirrors

Other features of the futuristic Honda PUYO concept include gel body made of soft materials, ultra-efficient hydrogen fuel cell technology, Seamless Soft Box body, people-friendly cabin, instrument panel monitor, elastic-like controls made from cloth, and joystick replaces the steering wheel.

Volkswagen Signs Heidi Klum and Seal

Volkswagen AG has recently announced that German super model Heidi Klum and her husband Seal had a three-year contract that allows the couple to promote Volkswagen models.

During a recent press release in Germany, Stephan Grühsem, head of Group Communication at Volkswagen said: “Klum and Seal are a modern patchwork family. They are natural and unpretentious personalities, tolerant and globally orientated – and thus represent values which can be attributed to Volkswagen, too. Our relationship has turned into a real friendship. Seal truly has petrol in his blood. He is extremely savvy when it comes to knowing the ins and out of our automobiles. And since Heidi Klum also has long-standing ties to Volkswagen, it seemed only natural to devise a promotion concept that would accommodate both of them as a couple. It is their first joint appearance as brand ambassadors"

Grühsem added: “With the Volkswagen Tiguan we want to take new innovative directions – not only with regard to the car itself, but also with respect to how we present it,” explains Jochen Sengpiehl, the head of Marketing at Volkswagen. An analysis revealed that Heidi Klum and our brand are an ideal fit. She is authentic, radiates a zest for life and Volkswagen buyers are able to identify with her."

In the other hand, Seal has already been a part of Volkswagen since the introduction of Volkswagen Passat last 2005. He also appeared at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and in Las Vegas during the presentation of the Audi R8.

Seal also commented:
"I told the VW guys that they should leave the Tiguan with us in Los Angeles …a great car: nimble, fast and full of technical refinements. My garage is full of products from Volkswagen. If it was possible I would testdrive every new car from them coming out. "

Winter Season Preps 101

If you think that the summer season is the most harsh time of the year for your car, well, think again.

Mark Salem, talk show host and ASE Certified Master Technician said that the upcoming winter season can cause major problems in your car than any other season. That is why he suggests some significant preventive maintenance tips for all car owners to prevent their car's from damage due to the harsh and freezing temperatures.

Salem recommends the following seven winter preparation tips:

1. Engine Tune Up
"Get engine problems such as hard starts, stalling and hesitations corrected now. Cooler weather makes existing problems worse. Waiting to address an issue will often cost you more."

2. Cooling System
"Have your cooling system flushed and filled according to the recommendation found in your owner’s manual"

3. Oil
Owners should consider using synthetic oil. These oils will help the car to operate more efficiently, making it easier for the driver to start in cooler temperatures, said Salem.

4. Battery
According to Salem, car owners should check the car's battery power and clean all surfaces of the battery. In addition, also try to make sure that all of the connections are tight, as dirty cables and loose battery connections can cause electrical system problems.

5. Brakes
"Keeping your brake system in top shape should be a priority, as the brakes are the most important safety feature on your vehicle. Make sure to have your vehicle’s brake pads, fluid levels and emergency brake inspected as well", said Salem.

6. Tires
Salem said, "examine your tires’ tread, checking for excessive wearing and side wall damage. Replace worn tires promptly and regularly rotate the tires on your vehicle." He also added that in case you cant find the guide for the proper inflation of your tires, you should inflate your tires to 35 psi.

7. Heater and Defroster
"Don’t put off checking the heater and defroster to ensure they are working properly before the cold weather hits. Visibility and passenger comfort depend on it."

Salem added: "As the weather cools off and the leaves begin to fall, take some steps to prepare your vehicle for the cold months ahead. A little preventative maintenance can go a long way. Don’t wait for signs of car trouble to alert you to a problem with your vehicle, especially as cooler weather begins to set in. Instead, be proactive when it comes to preventative maintenance and increase the engine life of your vehicle. You may also save yourself some potential hassles in the process."

3. Beware of wear and tear.
"People should avoid excessive wear and tear. Things like driving off-road or on rough road conditions or driving at excessive speeds should be avoided, in addition to 'riding' the clutch or the brakes. as well as over-hauling. During the time you own your vehicle, treat it with respect. It will pay off in the long run."

4. Keep it clean.
"Regular detailing helps you stay ahead of the elements. Waxing the exterior and using protectants on the trim and upholstery helps to prevent damage from things like the sun, road salt and stains from food and dirt."

5. Keep it covered.
"Not only does the sun fade paint, it fades upholstery and trim too. Extremely cold weather can wreak havoc on mechanical components, along with exterior damage caused by sleet and ice. The ideal situation is a climate-controlled or enclosed garage or storage area. If that's not possible, parking your vehicle under a carport or under a vehicle cover at the very least to protect it from the elements."

The recent 2007 Dealer Satisfaction with Online Buying Services Study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates shows that AutoTrader.com is the best website for satisfying dealers with online buying services for new and used vehicle models. The 2007 Dealer Satisfaction with Online Buying Services Study determines the leading online automotive services and information that offers buying guides and services.

According to Steve Witten, executive director of marketing/media research at J.D. Power and Associates: "As products and services offered by online lead service providers continue to evolve, so does dealer satisfaction with those services. However, with dealer satisfaction averaging 585 on a 1,000-point scale for the new-vehicle lead segment and 613 for the used-vehicle lead segment, there remains considerable room for improvement in delivering the level of service dealers expect. In particular, the quality of leads is of prime importance to dealers regarding new-vehicle leads, while quantity is emphasized for used-vehicle leads."

Mr. Witten added: "Walk-in and call-in shoppers receive responses in a more timely manner at auto dealerships compared with online lead shoppers. An opportunity exists for dealers to improve on the return on their investment in lead services by paying as much attention to online leads as they would to in person or phone sales leads and by responding just as quickly."

The automotive websites are being ranked by J.D. Power staff in two major categories: independent new-vehicle and independent used-vehicle. In addition, rankings are based on five major criteria including business generation, dealer support and service, fees, transmission of leads, and advertising. J.D. Power rates the websites based on 1,000 point scale and AutoTrader.com earned the highest rating with 628 points in the New-Vehicle Lead Services Segment, and 672 for the Used-Vehicle Lead Services Segment.

Leno, the host of The Tonight Show was chosen by BMW to be one of the first high profile individuals including political leaders, celebrities, and prominent businessmen to have the BMW Hydrogen 7 as their driving machine for everyday use.

According to Leno, "As an avid car enthusiast I'm always interested in the future of automotive technology. With the BMW Hydrogen 7 I can experience all the fun and great features of a performance car, yet know that I'm being environmentally friendly at the same time! I look forward to driving the Hydrogen 7 and learning more about hydrogen as a fuel for our future."

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is now on Leno's so called "green garage". This garage uses a giant steam and natural gas engines. With his new BMW Hydrogen 7, Jay Leno said that he will upgrade his garage to cope up with the environmentally friendly shop equipment and products. BMW gave the Hydrogen 7 to Jay Leno as a part of the company’s Hydrogen 7 Pioneer Program aims to promote the use of hydrogen fuel in the automotive industry.

South Korean automaker Kia has recently unveiled its latest concept model at the 2007 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. Kia stirred the European crowd when it presented the all-new Kee sports coupe concept.

"Kee refers to the English word ´key´ as the coupe embodies design elements which will become essential to the future ´look´ of Kia vehicles," explains Schreyer. "The coupe also represents the ´key´ which will open the door to success for our brand and acknowledges the Chinese and Korean word ´Ki´ - the cultural concept for life-force or spiritual energy. More than any other car-buyer, the sports coupe enthusiast knows instinctively when a car is right. Shape, proportion, stance and both tactile and emotional aspects all add up to a car that stirs the blood. At Frankfurt, Kia is revealing just such a car."

Suzuki Releases SX4 Model

Finally, the Japanese automaker Suzuki releases the details and the manufacturer's suggested retail price of the all-new 2008 Suzuki SX4. Suzuki offer two variants of this model including the 4-door SX4 Sport and 5-door SX4 Crossover.

The SX4 Sport comes with a sophisticated 2.0-liter four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC
engine under its hood, capable of producing 143 horsepower and 136 lb.-ft. amount of peak torque. Two Nissan Concept Models Heading to Frankfurt

Here is what Nissan got in store for European car fans at the upcoming 2007 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Nissan has announced that it will showcase two all-new concept models at the event: the Mixim Concept Car and the Micra Colour + Concept.

First off is the Mixim Concept Car. This model is equipped with the 'Super Motor' electric generator under its hood with lithium-ion batteries powering the front axle and a second driving the rear axle. This all electric concept model features an all wheel drive (AWD) configuration. Other features include svelte and distinctive coupe shape, wraparound windscreen, flowing roofline, sharply truncated rear hints, diamond-shaped styling cues inside and out, twin air intakes to the rear of the doors, front LED driving lights, triangular side window, and 2530 mm wheelbase.

Meanwhile, the Micra Colour + Concept car "has been designed to showcase the latest colour and paint technology and to highlight the changes that have been made to the entire Micra range," according to a Nissan press release. The Micra Colour + Concept comes in two-tone treatment with a Liquid Metal gold paint effect over the top of the car, with a three coat pearlescent white finish on the side areas of the car. The interior design cues of the Micra Colour + Concept complements the glossy exterior highlights. Inside, the Colour + Concept gives an impressive design contrast between the upper and lower portions of the vehicle. The car comes in upholstered white leather, with seats accented with detailing and stitching. The carpets as well as the lower internal panels inside the Nissan Colour + Concept come in dark acid yellow, giving occupants and elegant and comfortable feel.

AAA wants to guide drivers from the Minnesota area with the TripTik Travel Planner. This online traffic planner has recently closed the automatic routing on the affected areas on I-35W, as the bridge collapsed early this month.

AAA wants to help drivers, commuters, and other motorists by providing them traffic guides using alternative routes around Minnesota. So if you reside in the Twin Cities follow these routes when you are heading to Minneapolis from the North Metro.

* Motorists from the north and northeast suburbs (Fridley, Columbia Heights, New Brighton, etc.) will face the greatest challenge getting to work. They are urged to take westbound I-694 to southbound I-94 into downtown Minneapolis.

* An alternate route for those in the north and northeast is to take I-35W southbound to SR 280, heading south to I-94 west into downtown and exiting on 5th Street.

* If you are coming from the northwest suburbs (Maple Grove, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, etc.) take I-694 east to I-94, heading south into downtown and take the 4th Street or 7th Street exits. Another route from the northwest would be I-494 east to I-394 east to the downtown Minneapolis exits.

Buick Tops 2007 Vehicle Dependability Study

General Motors' Buick luxury division has recently proven its commitment to provide customers with the most dependable and reliable vehicle models. For the first time in 12 years, Buick tied Toyota's Lexus division in the top spot of the nameplate rankings from J.D. Power and Associates' recent 2007 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS).

VDS evaluates vehicle models with the highest residual value and reliability by conducting survey from more than 50,000 vehicle owners from January through April 2007, and asked them some problems encountered during the three years of vehicle ownership. Buick brand was ranked 3rd last year with 153 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). This year, Buick joins Lexus in the 1st place with only 145 PP100.

Whoa! What went wrong? It seems that the month of July 2007 was a very unlucky month for the majority of domestic and international automakers selling cars and trucks here in the United States. All of the leading automakers recorded a decline in sales figures in July 2007. Overall GM sales were down by 18.5% compared last year, Ford Motor Company was down by 15.7%, and Toyota Motor Corp. was also down by 3.5%. So far, only ten automakers posted increased sales this July.

Maybe July 2007 is a cursed month for the automotive industry. What do you think?

Chrysler Pulls the Plug on Imperial Concept Production

Well if you’ve been one of those guys waiting for Chrysler’s 2006 Imperial concept to show up in showroom floors – forget about it.

Looks like you won’t be able to give that girl a ride in this Bentleyesque vehicle as latest news say that the Chrysler Group has pulled the plug on its production version, thanks (or no thanks?) to escalating gas prices and the threat of higher CAFE standards.

"We felt it would have been irresponsible to bring a vehicle like that to the market at this time," Chrysler spokesman Dave Elshoff was quoted as saying. Elshoff said a production version of the Imperial concept "would have been substantially bigger than our largest sedan, the Chrysler 300C."

Industry observers are saying that the move to cancel the production of the controversial car is a smart move for the automaker, what with legislation currently expected to result in a 35-mpg fuel-efficiency average across the auto industry. The Imperial was supposed to bring a $700-million investment to Chrysler’s Ontario plant to provide proper tooling for its production. Chrysler still plans to use the plant for the next-generation 300, according to the Canadian Autoworkers union president.

Chrysler had reportedly planned to start building the Imperial in early 2009, using components from the rear-wheel-drive 300C and its siblings, the Dodge Challenger, Charger and Magnum.

The Imperial concept made its debut at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, drawing both cheers and jeers in later reviews.

The prices will start from £8,499 or $17,268 for the new Mazda2 TS model which is expected to compete head to head with other rival vehicles in its segment. The Mazda2 TS model boasts of excellent standard equipments that are not offered by rival brands but are offered as an option for the Mazda2.

The standard equipment included on the 1.3 liter, 75ps Mazda2 TS are the following: 15-inch alloy wheels, ABS with Brake Assist and EBD, driver and front passenger airbags, remote central locking with deadlocks, electric front windows, driver seat heigh adjust, CD ratio with AUX jack and two speakers, multi-function glovebox with magazine rack, Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobilizer and electric door mirrors.

After the release of the all new Mazda2 petrol range will be the launching of a 1.4 liter 68PS diesel engine models in the form of TS and TS2. The additional two new models will have the same specifications as the petrol models.

Soon: Fiat 500 vs. Mini

For a while there it looked like Mini will remain unrivaled as the cutest, uber-stylish, “baby” car on the road.

But that may soon change, what with Fiat’s startling resurrection in Europe, and all the rumors now circulating that it is currently making plans to mass-market its new 500 baby car in many more versions over the next several years.

At its launch on July 4, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne even called the new little car the automotive version of the iPod.

Various European press reports are citing that according to Fiat executives, the company already has given the green light for the introduction this fall of a high-performance Abarth edition of the 500.

The 500 Abarth, to be powered by a 135-horsepower turbo 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, is expected to make its world debut in October at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show, followed by a European launch in December at the Bologna show.

Fiat has also already confirmed plans to launch a 500 convertible in the summer of 2008, patterned after the old Fiat Jolly series. J.D. Power and Associates, one of the leading firms that provide marketing information for customers has just released their 2007 Initial Quality Study (IQS). The IQS measures the quality of vehicles after 90 days of ownership, and determining the problems encountered per 100 vehicles from different automakers. IQS defined this as the PP100 ranking.

2007 Car Total Quality Index (TQI) Awardees

Hyundai has move toward a long way since first coming to U.S. 20 years ago and for the first tome this Korean Company reaches the pinnacle than other auto carmakers in the number of vehicles obtaining the highest score in their category as consulted from the automotive consulting firm Strategic Vision by the 2007 Total Quality Index Award giving body.

To those who are not familiar with the Total Quality Index, it has 19 product segments; the scores were attained based on the responses from more than 27,000 buyers who bought models in September, October and November last year. Each one of them were asked to rate the entire characteristics of the ownership experience, from buying and owning to driving.

Back to the awardees, three out of 19 segments were led by automobiles from Hyundai. Azera (top at the Large Car segment) is considered to be one of vehicles from Hyundai Motors that ranked top for quality in its vehicle segment, according to Strategic Vision. Then the Entourage in a tie for the Minivan segment and the Santa Fe led the Small SUV segment.

Saturn Aura tied with Maxima for the Medium car while Quest is with the Kia Sedona and Hyundai Entourage in the minivan. Well what a surprised guys Lexus RX 350, the only vehicle from Toyota Company was able to be on top unlike last year that almost 4 from the company got the highest score.
